The short version
- There is no account. We never ask for your name, email address or a password to use the app.
- Your car, saved places and fill history stay on your device. They are held in the app's own storage on your iPhone and are never uploaded to us.
- We don't track you. No analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no third-party trackers.
- Your location is only used when you ask for it, to find nearby forecourts, and it isn't stored or transmitted to us.
- If you email us, we keep that email so we can reply to you — nothing more.
1. Who we are
Pump Pence ("we", "us") is operated by Defender Days Ltd, which provides the Pump Pence iPhone app and this website. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, we are the data controller for the limited personal data described below.
You can contact us about privacy at any time using the contact form, choosing "Privacy or data request". We are Defender Days Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.
2. What the app stores, and where
Almost everything the app remembers is stored on your own iPhone, in the app's private storage. It is not sent to us, we cannot read it, and it stays on that device until you delete it. That includes:

Deleting the app from your iPhone, or using the in-app "Clear history" button, removes this information permanently. We hold no copy of it, so we cannot restore it for you — and it is not part of any account, because there isn't one.
3. Location
If you tap Near me, iOS will ask your permission to share your location. Your coordinates are used on your device to work out which forecourts are nearby and how far away they are. They are not sent to us, not logged, and not stored. You can decline, and search by postcode or town name instead — the app works exactly the same way. Permission can be changed at any time in iOS Settings.
4. Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app can tell you when a forecourt you've favourited drops its price, and remind you before your MOT expires. Which stations you've favourited and when your MOT is due are held on your device. Notifications are a permission you grant, and can be withdrawn at any time in iOS Settings — the rest of the app carries on working without them.
5. Vehicle registration lookups
If you enter your registration and tap Find my car, that registration is sent to our lookup service, which queries UK government services on your behalf:
- the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service, which returns the make, year, engine size and fuel type; and
- the DVSA MOT History service, which returns the model and trim.
This step exists only because those services require credentials that cannot safely be published in a web page. The registration is used to answer that one request and is not retained by us afterwards, nor linked to you. The results are matched against our own vehicle data to find a tank size and real-world mpg, and the answer is stored on your device, not on our servers.
A vehicle registration mark can, in some circumstances, be personal data because it relates to a vehicle keeper. We handle it accordingly: it is used transiently, for the purpose you asked for, and nothing else. Those government services operate under their own privacy terms.

Fuel price data itself is downloaded to your device as a single file and searched there, so we never see which forecourts you looked at or which one you chose.
7. Purchases
French coverage is a one-off in-app purchase. It is handled entirely by Apple: payment is taken through your Apple Account and we never see your card details, billing address or any part of your payment method. We receive only the fact that a purchase was made, so the app can unlock the feature.
8. Apple and the App Store
The app is distributed through Apple's App Store. When you download it, Apple handles that transaction under its own privacy policy, and gives us aggregate statistics — how many downloads there were, roughly where in the world, which devices and iOS versions. These are counts, not people: we cannot identify you from them, and we receive nothing tying a download to a person.
If iOS offers to send us a crash report, that is your choice to make and it goes to Apple, not to us; we see only anonymised diagnostics if you have opted in to sharing them with developers. We do not use Apple's advertising identifier, and the app asks for no tracking permission because it does no tracking.
9. Cookies and analytics
We set no cookies on this website, and the app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
The app's on-device storage is not a cookie: it is never transmitted with requests, and it is strictly necessary to provide the functionality you asked for.
10. If you contact us
When you use the contact form, we receive your name, your email address and your message. We use them for one purpose: to reply to you and, where relevant, to fix what you've told us about. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not pass your details to anyone for marketing.
Contact form submissions are delivered to our inbox by Resend, which acts as a processor for that delivery. We keep correspondence for as long as it is useful for support and record-keeping, normally no more than 24 months, and then delete it.
11. Our lawful bases
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) — running and securing the service, and responding to messages you send us. We have considered your rights and freedoms and, given how little data is involved and that none of it is used for profiling, we consider this balanced.
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — for access to your device location, which iOS asks you for separately and which you can withdraw at any time in iOS Settings.
12. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have data erased, and to restrict or object to our processing of it;
- data portability, where it applies; and
- complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
In practice, unless you have emailed us, we are unlikely to hold anything about you at all — because the app is built so that we don't. Data held only on your device is under your control: you can change it or delete it without asking us.
To make a request, use the contact form and choose "Privacy or data request". We'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled it you can raise it with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
13. Children
Pump Pence is a tool for drivers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.
14. Data outside the UK
The website and the app are served through hosting and content delivery providers that may operate servers outside the UK. Where any personal data is transferred internationally, it is protected by the safeguards required under UK data protection law, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations.
15. Accuracy of the data we show
Fuel prices come from the UK Fuel Finder open data scheme and are only as current as retailers' own reporting. Vehicle economy figures are derived from Vehicle Certification Agency published test data with a real-world adjustment applied, and tank capacities are typical figures for the model that vary by trim. Everything the app shows is indicative — always check the price on the forecourt before you buy.
16. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and change the date at the top of it. Material changes will be flagged in the app itself.
